At Moana Nui-a-Kiwa Pool and Leisure Centre you'll find a huge pool complex and much more! It's truly a multi-facility, with a fitness centre, stadium, eight pools, bookable spaces and a love of its community to boot.
Have fun, get active, be social or even just relax — the spa and saunas are perfect for relaxing weary muscles!
The Moana Nui-a-Kiwa team are committed to — and inspired about — helping our community and members get active their way. Send us your enquiries via the contact us form or, even better, come and visit us and let us show you around our fantastic facility.
Special things about our pools
- Swimming in the pools at Moana-Nui-a-Kiwa is free for all ages.
- We have a unique, dedicated bombing pool which is one of five outdoor pools that are open all summer. Oh, and a hydroslide!
- Our splash pad is for all ages, and the swimwear requirement is relaxed as it's not an actual pool.
- To keep you sun safe we have rash tops for hire. Sizes go up to 9XL, so swimwear is not a barrier!
- For the upcoming summer season (but only through booking) we'll have a new electrical barbecue area with shade and tables. Can't book? Don't worry, you can still picnic on the grass by the pools.
Please note that there is no disabled access to the indoor splash pool nor the outdoor pools.

We offer:
- small class sizes
- free swimming before and after lessons (subject to availability). Pool supervision policy must be followed
- plenty of free parking

Why choose our Learn to Swim classes?
- We are a member of Swim Coaches Teachers New Zealand (SCTNZ)
- We are a registered Swim School with Swimming New Zealand
- We really care about teaching water safety. All our students are taught key water safety skills first, then progress to mastering swimming skills.
- All our instructors are either AUSTSWIM qualified or are working towards becoming AUSTSWIM qualified.
- As a community facility, we are more affordable than many private providers.
Our facility accommodates family members of all ages. We have a shallower, warmer learn to swim pool and a bigger pool for deep water confidence and greater distance.
Accessibility and inclusion at our swim school
Here at Moana Learn to Swim, we are beginning our journey towards a more inclusive centre. We are working to ensure that our staff are considering the individual needs of students and are learning how to modify their practices to cater to more young people with disabilities or impairments. Our team are happy to talk about how we can create a better opportunity and experience for your child.
Learn to Swim Year-Round Programme
We have made some changes to our Learn to Swim Programme at Moana-Nui-a-Kiwa Pool and Leisure Centre. Lessons have moved to a year-round schedule.

- No term breaks – lessons now run continuously throughout the year for 48 weeks, including school holidays.
- There will be a small break during the Christmas period, 21 December 2026 - 17 January 2027 and our annual maintenance periods.
- Progress at your own pace – students move up once achieved all goals for their current level.
- Flexible options – you won’t lose out if you miss a class – just log the absence before the lesson and arrange a replacement lesson all online, from your myLEISURE account.
Benefits for students:
- Faster progress and consistent learning.
- Greater flexibility for families and holidays.
- More opportunities to move up levels
