Ōtara Pool and Leisure Centre

About the centre

Ōtara Pool and Leisure Centre is here to help you get active in a fun and supportive environment — whether that’s in the gym, going for a swim, joining a group fitness class or getting amongst our social sports leagues. We're proud to have something for the whole family.

Our double court stadium hosts lots of exciting competition events, but there're still plenty of times when you can drop in and play some basketball (or volleyball or netball) — or just shoot a few hoops.

We're passionate about our community and grateful to be right in the heart of Ōtara — close to other services and with plenty of parking available.

For swimmers with accessibility needs, a water wheelchair is available. The fitness centre is also accessible by wheelchair.

We welcome your enquiry! You can use the contact us form or, even better, come and visit us and let us show you all the fun of getting active.

Group fitness classes

Group fitness classes get you off the couch and interacting with our community. They also harness the group's energy to create a motivating, challenging, and totally addictive workout experience.

They're a great way to change things up and make the most of your workout!

Play your role

Keep everyone safe and healthy with good hygiene practice - here are a few friendly reminders of the basics:

  • Bring your water bottle and towel - No towel = No workout!
  • Bring your mat to any floor-based classes (e.g. yoga, Oxycore, Abs, etc.)
  • Cover your coughs and sneezes (into your elbow or with tissues and dispose of these into the bin immediately)
  • Wash your hands frequently
  • Wipe equipment you have used - while our staff clean regularly, we need your help too (we have wipes and spray for you to use)
  • Shower before you swim or jump into an aqua class (helps us keep our pools clean)
  • And, stay home if you are unwell - play it safe!

View class timetable and booking information

  • Book into group fitness classes related to your membership up to a week in advance.
  • You'll be notified of any class cancellations by email.
  • You'll receive confirmation of a booked class in a form of an admission ticket.
    -  You don’t need to do anything with the admission ticket, just scan your membership card upon arrival.
  • For Aqua please visit reception upon arrival

Out of school care (OSCAR)

About us

Every day is different at our centre.

When the weather is warm we like to go to the pools for swimming lessons,  or we head to the stadium to master a new sport or let the kids' imaginations run wild in our arts and crafts sessions.

Our programmes are designed for all age groups and our friendly staff are on hand to help in every way – even with homework and providing a healthy afternoon snack.

School holiday programme

About our programme for 5 to 13-year-olds

We believe it takes a village to raise a child. Here at Ōtara Pool and Leisure Centre, we are that village.

As well as nurturing your child, our school holiday programme for 5 to 13-year-olds has a range of activities to keep them entertained. We teach them simple life skills like baking cookies. We have lots of fun making arts and crafts. We also provide them with lots of opportunities to get active.

We enjoy celebrating the various cultural weeks that are held during the year by memorising simple meal prayers, performing waiata and learning cultural dances.

The programme runs from 8am to 5pm.

Before programme care is available from 7am to 8am. After programme care is available from 5pm to 6pm.
