‘The Teps’ is an iconic part of Auckland’s history. A Category 2 Historic Place, Teps boasts over 100 years of history, including its origins as saltwater pools! Built in 1914 and refurbished extensively in 2012, our centre has two pools, spa, steam and sauna facilities and a state-of-the-art fitness centre to help you get active. Whether your goal is general fitness, weight loss, sports training or rehabilitation, the Tepid Baths is here to help you get active your way.
Learning to swim? Regardless of age or ability, you and your family are encouraged to learn to swim with us. We have swim classes catered to meet individual abilities. Our professional instructors will take you through a step-by-step programme that will give you skills and confidence to enjoy the water.

We offer:
- small class sizes
- free swimming before and after lessons (subject to availability). Pool supervision policy must be followed
- discounts for families.
We can instruct swimmers of any age and ability, from 6-month-old babies to adults.
Why choose our Learn to Swim classes?
- We are a member of Swim Coaches Teachers New Zealand (SCTNZ)
- We are a registered Swim School with Swimming New Zealand
- We really care about teaching water safety. All our students are taught key water safety skills first, then progress to mastering swimming skills.
- All our instructors are either AUSTSWIM qualified or are working towards becoming AUSTSWIM qualified.
- As a community facility, we are more affordable than many private providers.
Our facility accommodates family members of all ages. We have a shallower, warmer learn to swim pool and a bigger pool for deep water confidence and greater distance.
Accessibility and inclusion at our swim school
Here at Tepid Baths Learn to Swim we are beginning our journey towards a more inclusive centre. We are working to ensure that our staff are considering the individual needs of students and are learning how to modify their practices to cater to more young people with disabilities or impairments. Our team are happy to talk about how we can create a better opportunity and experience for your child.
