Auckland Council Pools and Leisure Vaccination Approach
3pm Friday 26 November, 2021.
This vaccination approach has been developed for the Red and Orange setting of the COVID-19 Protection Framework. This is an interim approach that will be regularly reviewed as settings within the framework change.
Vaccination Requirement
Since the COVID-19 Protection Framework will require vaccine passes for several of the services we deliver (including gyms, events and gatherings, and close contact services), customers aged 12 years and 3 months and older wanting to use our pools and leisure centres will need to provide their vaccine pass every time upon entry. Staff will be at the entrance to scan your My Vaccine Pass with the official NZ Pass Verifier app.
Anyone with a medical exemption (approved by the Ministry of Health) will be able to get a vaccine pass and present this to gain entry with no issue.
This will apply to both council-operated and contracted sites throughout the region.
Customers may be asked to show proof of age upon entry.
Our customers' and staffs' safety is our priority
We have reached this decision because once people are in our centres, regardless of whether they’re going to the gym or having a swim, we won’t be able to manage everyone’s movements between spaces that have different controls in place.
Additionally, controls such as face coverings are not possible to be used (for example when swimming), and public health advice had indicated exercise as being a time of increased risk of virus transmission.
